Morris Elementary School's  Mission Statement

Mission

The faculty and staff of L. J. Morris Elementary believe that each
child is unique with emotional, physical, social, and intellectual
needs.  Morris faculty and staff strive to meet the needs and
develop the potential of the total child by providing a variety of
positive, motivational activities and experiences within a secure,
active learning environment. The faculty and staff will educate each
child using a strong and varied academic program, which will also
foster patriotism and respect for the rights of others. With effective
leadership, guidance in instruction, parental and community
involvement, the students will become better prepared to accept the
ever changing challenges of life.

About Morris

Louis J. Morris Elementary School is located in the
southwestern section of Bob Wallace Avenue.  The school
site is located on twenty-one acres of land leased to the
Huntsville Board of Education for the sum of the one dollar
for ninety-nine years.  Louis J. Morris is surrounded by
cultural activities; on its eastern border, the Huntsville
Botanical Gardens and on its western border, the Alabama
Space and Rocket Center.

The school opened in 1958 as Madison Pike Elementary.  It
was renamed Louis J. Morris Elementary in 1976 in memory
of the school's first principal.

A significant change in the school's population occurred in
1990 with the rezoning of Redstone Arsenal children to
Williams Elementary School.  Morris' population has
remained unchanged since 1990.
